Artist Profile_Master artisan Christiane Perrochon’s creative process is sparked with a simple flash of intuition. The Christiane Perrochon Atelier produces ceramics both in stoneware and porcelain fired at high temperatures and covered with captivating precious glazes, the fruit of many years of personally conducted research. Born in Geneva Switzerland, Christiane completed her studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs receiving a diploma in ceramics before moving to Italy. She has since lived in a small hamlet bearing the name of Castiglion Alberti, situated in the heart of the Tuscan countryside on a hilltop surrounded by woods of oak trees and groves of centuries-old olive trees. Her laboratory occupies the entire ground floor of what was once a medieval rectory and which today is her home, with the adjacent chapel transformed into a spacious showroom for her creations. Christiane has been creating rarely seen rich hues in stoneware for over forty years by using high-temperature ceramic glazes. Color and form are of utmost importance to Christiane as her handmade process is continuously confronted with the possibility of disaster. The extreme particularity of bonding the richly saturated colors to each hand-shaped piece is a risky undertaking yet Christiane manages to strike a perfect balance between lightness and stability for each of these unique pieces that she shapes by hand. Each ceramic work from her wheelhouse brings forth its very own characteristic personality and any piece from Christiane’s collection can translate to occupy a space befittingly.
