Artist Profile | Born 1969 and set up her studio in Yokkaichi, Mie where the ceramist Kyoko Uchida is currently based. Her hand-building technique involves piling up strings of clay and building up the clay with the sensation of the fingers, which takes longer than with an electric wheel. Inspired by vessels from the Yayoi period of prehistoric Japan as well as ancient Jordan, Uchida's vessels have a rough earthy taste, which is conveyed in many of her works, giving the impression of the warmth of the clay rather than its strength and also the pri-mordial silhouette.
